Project Overview
MB Millwork recently completed a kitchen renovation in Rutherford, NJ, for a 13' x 14' kitchen that needed better storage, brighter finishes, and a layout that felt easier to use every day. We installed shop-built custom cabinets in a soft almond white, a 6' rift oak island with seating for three, quartz countertops, and a full-height matte ceramic backsplash. The finished space now has a cleaner flow, more usable prep space, and a look that fits the rest of the home.
The Problem
Before the renovation, the Rutherford kitchen had dark cherry cabinets, a narrow prep area, and a peninsula that cut into the main walkway. The counter surfaces were worn, storage was limited, and the room felt a little boxed in during cooking and cleanup. The homeowners wanted a fresh, more functional space without changing the footprint too much.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a low soffit over the refrigerator wall and a side entry door that limited cabinet depth on one run. The homeowners also wanted a larger island, so the design had to improve circulation while still adding seating and storage.
Our Solution
We built a custom 3D plan and fabricated the cabinetry in our Lyndhurst shop to dial in the measurements before installation. The project used painted maple perimeter cabinets, a rift oak island, soft-close hinges and drawer slides, and quartz tops with subtle gray veining. We also added a slim pantry tower, pull-out trash storage, and a backsplash installed full height behind the range for a cleaner finish.
The Result
The completed kitchen feels brighter, more open, and easier to move through. The almond white cabinets and oak island give the room a balanced look, while the new layout makes cooking and cleanup much simpler. The updated materials also bring a more polished feel to the entire first floor.
