Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen renovation in Lyndhurst, NJ, for a 13' x 15' kitchen that needed better storage, a cleaner layout, and finishes that felt more in step with the rest of the home. We installed shop-built custom cabinetry in a soft linen white, a 7' walnut island with seating for three, quartz countertops, and a full-height handmade-look backsplash to tie the room together. The new layout gives the homeowners more room to cook, easier access to everyday items, and a kitchen that feels organized from morning coffee to dinner cleanup.
The Problem
Before the renovation, the Lyndhurst kitchen had dated oak cabinets, a narrow prep zone between the sink and range, and a peninsula that made the walkway feel tight. The homeowner also had limited pantry storage, so small appliances and dry goods were taking up valuable counter space. The room worked, but it felt cramped and visually heavy.
The Challenge
The kitchen included a radiator on one wall and a soffit above the refrigerator run, which limited cabinet heights and made standard boxes a poor fit. The homeowners also wanted seating at the island without blocking traffic into the adjacent dining area.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and built a layout that used every inch efficiently while keeping the room open. The cabinetry was fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop with painted maple fronts, plywood construction, soft-close hinges and drawer slides, and a walnut island for contrast. We also added a tall pantry cabinet, pull-out trash storage, quartz countertops with soft gray veining, and a backsplash set to the ceiling behind the range for a cleaner finish.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more open, and much more practical for daily use. The linen white cabinets and walnut island create a balanced look, while the improved storage keeps counters clear and the cooking area easier to manage. Every detail was trimmed in a way that makes the room feel custom without looking overdone.
