Project Overview
MB Millwork recently completed a kitchen remodeling project in Secaucus, NJ, for a 12' x 14' kitchen that needed a cleaner layout and more usable storage. We installed shop-built custom cabinets in a soft greige painted finish, paired them with a 6' walnut island, quartz countertops, and a full-height glazed tile backsplash. The homeowners now have a brighter, more practical kitchen that works better for weeknight cooking and weekend hosting.
The Problem
Before the remodel, the Secaucus kitchen had dated raised-panel cabinets, a small peninsula, and not enough counter space for daily meal prep. The layout made the room feel tight, and the existing storage was a mix of deep shelves and awkward corner cabinets that were hard to reach. The finishes were worn and dark, which made the space feel smaller than it really was.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a return wall near the dining area and a low soffit above the sink wall, so the new design had to improve storage without changing the footprint. The homeowners also wanted an island for prep and casual seating, but it had to stay clear of the main walkway.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design and mapped out a custom layout that fit the room dimensions and traffic flow. In our Lyndhurst shop, we fabricated the cabinetry with plywood boxes, maple doors, soft-close hinges and drawer slides, then finished everything in a durable greige enamel. We added a walnut island with deep drawers, a quartz countertop with light veining, and a glazed ceramic backsplash to bring in a little texture without overpowering the room.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels more open, balanced, and easier to use from one end to the other. The soft greige cabinets keep the room bright, while the walnut island adds warmth and gives the homeowners a real gathering spot. The new storage and better counter layout made the space more functional right away.
