Project Overview
MB Millwork just completed a kitchen remodeling project in Nutley, NJ, with a fresh layout built around the way the homeowners actually use the space. We installed custom shop-built cabinetry in a bright white painted finish, paired with a warm oak island, quartz countertops, a full-height subway tile backsplash, and soft-close hardware throughout. The new kitchen now has better storage, cleaner sightlines, and a more open feel for everyday cooking and hosting.
The Problem
The original kitchen in this Nutley home had builder-grade cabinets with worn laminate doors, limited pantry storage, and dark finishes that made the room feel smaller than it was. The layout was awkward around the refrigerator and prep area, and the old countertop space was tight for everyday cooking. The homeowners wanted a cleaner, more functional kitchen without losing warmth.
The Challenge
The biggest challenge was fitting more storage into a compact footprint while keeping the walkway open near the dining area. They also wanted a mix of finishes that felt custom but still matched the rest of the home.
Our Solution
Our team created a new 3D layout and built the cabinetry in our Lyndhurst shop for precise fit and consistent quality. We used painted maple for the perimeter cabinets, a rift-cut white oak island, full-extension drawers, and soft-close hinges, then topped it off with 3 cm quartz countertops and a durable porcelain tile backsplash. A dedicated pantry cabinet and corner storage solutions helped maximize every inch.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels organized, brighter, and much easier to move around in. The white perimeter cabinets reflect more light, while the oak island gives the room a warmer focal point and ties the whole design together. The new storage and improved prep space made the kitchen feel more practical right away.
