Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen remodeling project in Passaic, NJ, for a 12'6" x 14' kitchen that needed a better layout and more usable storage. We installed shop-built custom cabinetry in a soft dove white, a 6'8" walnut island with seating for two, quartz countertops with light gray veining, and a full-height matte ceramic backsplash behind the range. The finished kitchen feels brighter and more organized, with a cleaner work zone for cooking, prepping, and everyday cleanup.
The Problem
Before the remodel, the Passaic kitchen had older oak cabinets, worn laminate counters, and a narrow stretch between the sink and range that made meal prep feel cramped. The corner storage was awkward to reach, and the dark finishes made the room feel smaller than it was. The homeowners wanted a kitchen that worked better for daily cooking and felt more open.
The Challenge
The space had a soffit over part of the cabinet run and a doorway close to the refrigerator wall, which limited standard cabinet sizing. The homeowners also wanted island seating without blocking the main path into the dining area.
Our Solution
We began with a free 3D design consultation and laid out a plan that improved flow while maximizing storage on every wall. The cabinetry was fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop with plywood boxes, painted shaker fronts, soft-close hardware, and a walnut island built with deep drawers for cookware. We finished the room with quartz countertops, a full-height backsplash behind the range, and custom trim to clean up the soffit and wall transitions.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels lighter, more balanced, and much easier to move through. The dove white perimeter cabinets and walnut island create a warm contrast, while the new storage keeps counters clear and everyday items close at hand. The whole room now looks intentional and functions better for family meals and cleanup.
