Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen remodeling project in Nutley, NJ, for a 12'6" x 14'2" kitchen that needed a better layout and more usable storage for everyday cooking. We installed shop-built custom cabinetry in a soft pearl white, added a 7'1" white oak island with seating for three, and finished the room with quartz countertops, a handmade-look ceramic backsplash behind the range, and soft-close hardware throughout. The new kitchen now has a wider prep area, cleaner sightlines, and a layout that works better for weeknight meals and weekend hosting alike.
The Problem
Before the remodel, the Nutley kitchen had older maple cabinets, worn laminate counters, and a peninsula that crowded the main walkway into the dining room. The corner storage was awkward to reach, and the darker finish made the room feel smaller than it really was. The homeowners wanted a brighter kitchen with better function and a more finished look.
The Challenge
The kitchen included a low soffit along one wall and a side door close to the refrigerator run, so cabinet sizing and island placement had to be planned carefully. We also needed to keep seating in the design without tightening the traffic path through the room.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and mapped out a layout that improved storage while keeping the kitchen open and easy to move through. Our shop fabricated the cabinetry in Lyndhurst with plywood construction, soft-close hinges, and full-extension drawers, while the white oak island added warmth and extra prep space. We completed the project with quartz countertops, a full-height backsplash behind the range, and custom trim details to make the soffit and wall transitions look built in.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more balanced, and much more practical for daily use. The pearl white perimeter cabinets lighten the room, the oak island gives it a natural focal point, and the quartz surfaces make cleanup simple. The trim, backsplash, and fitted cabinet lines help the whole space feel intentional from end to end.
