Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen remodeling project in Nutley, NJ, for a 12'9" x 14'5" kitchen that needed better storage and a cleaner layout for everyday cooking. We installed shop-built custom cabinetry in a soft cream finish, a 6'10" walnut island with seating for two, quartz countertops with fine gray veining, and a full-height ceramic backsplash behind the range. The finished space now feels more open and easier to work in, with a layout that fits the homeowners’ routine from weekday meals to weekend hosting.
The Problem
Before the remodel, the Nutley kitchen had aging oak cabinets, worn laminate counters, and a peninsula that made the main walkway feel tight. The corner storage was awkward to reach, and the dark finish on the cabinets made the room feel smaller than it was. The homeowners wanted a brighter kitchen with better storage and a layout that made sense for daily use.
The Challenge
The room had a low soffit over part of the cabinet run and a side doorway close to the fridge wall, which limited cabinet sizing and placement. We also had to add seating without crowding the path into the dining area.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and built a layout that improved flow while maximizing every wall. The cabinetry was fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop with plywood construction, soft-close hardware, and painted shaker fronts, while the walnut island added warmth and extra storage. We finished the project with quartz countertops, a full-height backsplash behind the range, and custom trim to make the soffit and wall transitions look built in.
The Result
The completed kitchen feels brighter, more balanced, and much easier to move through. The cream perimeter cabinets and walnut island create a clean, warm contrast, while the new storage keeps countertops clear and everyday items easy to reach. The whole room now looks intentional and functions like a true custom kitchen.
