Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen remodeling project in Clifton, NJ, for a 12'7" x 14'3" kitchen that needed more storage and a layout that worked better around the existing side entry and dining room opening. We installed shop-built custom cabinetry in a soft linen white, added a 6'9" white oak island with seating for two, and finished the space with quartz countertops, a full-height handmade-look backsplash behind the range, and soft-close hardware throughout. The new kitchen feels easier to move through, with more room for prep, cleaner countertop lines, and a finish that ties in well with the rest of the home.
The Problem
Before the remodel, the Clifton kitchen had older oak cabinets, worn laminate counters, and a peninsula that made the walkway into the dining room feel tight. The corner storage was hard to use, and the room felt dark because the finishes were heavy and the upper cabinets stopped short of the ceiling. The homeowners wanted a cleaner layout, more usable storage, and a kitchen that felt easier for everyday cooking.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a side entry close to the work area and a soffit on one wall, which made cabinet sizing and island placement more complicated than a typical layout. We also needed to fit seating into the design without crowding the path between the sink, range, and dining room.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and planned a layout that opened up the room while making better use of every wall. The cabinetry was fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop with plywood construction, shaker-style doors, full-extension drawers, and soft-close hinges, while the white oak island added warm contrast and extra storage. We completed the space with quartz countertops, a full-height backsplash behind the range, and custom trim work to make the soffit and transitions look built in.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more open, and much easier to use from one task to the next. The linen white cabinetry and oak island give the room a balanced look, and the quartz surfaces make cleanup simple after cooking. Details like the fitted trim and full-height backsplash help the space feel finished without looking busy.
