Project Overview
MB Millwork recently completed a kitchen remodeling project in Carlstadt, NJ, for an 11'6" x 14' kitchen that needed better storage, a wider prep zone, and finishes that felt lighter in the room. We installed shop-built custom cabinets in a soft linen white, a 6'4" white oak island with seating for two, quartz countertops with fine gray veining, and a full-height handmade-look backsplash behind the range. The updated layout gives the homeowners more room to cook and clean up, and the space now feels more open from the sink wall to the dining area.
The Problem
Before the remodel, the Carlstadt kitchen had dated oak cabinets, a cramped prep area, and a peninsula that made the walkway feel tight. The countertop space was broken up, and the darker finishes made the room feel smaller than it was. The homeowners wanted a cleaner layout with more usable storage and a brighter overall look.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a return wall near the refrigerator and a low soffit over part of the sink run, which made standard cabinetry a poor fit. The homeowners also wanted an island for seating without blocking the path into the dining room.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and laid out a cabinet plan that improved storage while keeping the circulation open. Our shop fabricated the cabinetry in Lyndhurst using plywood boxes, painted shaker fronts, soft-close hardware, and a white oak island built with deep drawers. We finished the space with quartz countertops, custom trim, and a full-height backsplash to clean up the wall transitions around the soffit and openings.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more balanced, and easier to use every day. The linen white perimeter cabinets and warm oak island add contrast without overwhelming the room, and the new countertop runs give the homeowners better space for prep and serving. The whole kitchen now looks more finished and flows better with the rest of the home.
