Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen remodeling project in Belleville, NJ, for a 12'2" x 14'6" kitchen that needed a smarter layout and a cleaner finish for daily use. We installed shop-built custom cabinetry in a soft ivory paint, a 6'10" white oak island with seating for two, quartz countertops with light gray veining, and a full-height handmade-look backsplash behind the range. The updated kitchen now has better storage, a larger prep area, and a more open feel from the sink wall to the dining room.
The Problem
Before the remodel, the Belleville kitchen had old oak cabinets, worn laminate counters, and a peninsula that tightened the walkway into the dining area. The corner storage was hard to reach, and the room felt darker than it should have because the finishes were heavy and dated. The homeowners wanted a layout that worked better for cooking, storage, and everyday cleanup.
The Challenge
The space had a soffit over part of the refrigerator wall and a doorway close to the cooking zone, which limited cabinet sizing and placement. The homeowners also wanted island seating without cutting into the main traffic path, so every inch had to be planned carefully.
Our Solution
We began with a free 3D design consultation and mapped out a layout that improved flow while adding more usable storage. The cabinetry was fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop with plywood construction, painted shaker fronts, soft-close hinges, and full-extension drawer slides, while the white oak island was built with deep drawers and a durable quartz top. We also added a full-height backsplash behind the range and custom trim around the soffit to give the room a cleaner, built-in look.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more open, and much easier to move through. The ivory perimeter cabinets soften the room, the oak island adds warmth, and the quartz surfaces make daily cleanup simple. The details now feel intentional, and the whole space reads as a custom kitchen rather than a patchwork of updates.
