Project Overview
MB Millwork recently completed a kitchen remodeling project in Belleville, NJ, for a 12' x 15' kitchen that needed better storage and a cleaner layout for daily use. We installed shop-built custom cabinets in a soft ivory finish, a 6'8" white oak island, quartz countertops with light gray veining, and a full-height handmade-look backsplash behind the range. The finished space feels brighter and more practical, with a layout that gives the homeowners room to cook, serve, and gather without the old bottlenecks.
The Problem
Before the remodel, the Belleville kitchen had dated oak cabinets, a narrow prep area, and a peninsula that made the room feel tighter than it should have. The laminate counters were worn near the sink, and the corner storage was difficult to reach, so everyday cooking meant working around clutter. The homeowners wanted a cleaner look and a layout that handled family meals better.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a soffit over the refrigerator wall and a doorway near the dining room, which limited cabinet sizing and made the layout tricky. The homeowners also wanted seating at the island, so we had to improve flow without crowding the main walkway.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and mapped out a layout that made better use of the existing footprint. The cabinetry was built in our Lyndhurst shop with plywood construction, soft-close hinges and drawer slides, and painted maple doors, while the island was finished in white oak for contrast and warmth. We paired everything with quartz tops, a deep single-bowl sink, and custom trim to clean up the transitions around the soffit and openings.
The Result
The completed kitchen now feels open, balanced, and easy to move through. The ivory cabinets brighten the room, the oak island gives it a natural focal point, and the quartz surfaces make cleanup simple. Every cabinet, drawer, and finish detail was set up to work well in the home, not just look good on day one.
