Project Overview
MB Millwork recently completed a custom kitchen cabinets project in East Rutherford, NJ, for a home with a 12' x 14' kitchen that needed better storage and a cleaner layout. We built and installed shop-fabricated shaker cabinets in a soft white finish with a 7' walnut island, matte black pulls, and soft-close hardware throughout. The new setup gives the homeowners more usable space, easier access to everyday items, and a kitchen that feels more organized for cooking and gathering.
The Problem
The kitchen had older stock cabinets that didn’t reach the ceiling and wasted a lot of wall space. A corner pantry box and narrow drawer stacks made storage tight, and the room felt cluttered every time the family cooked.
The Challenge
The room had an awkward soffit above the rear wall and a radiator near one side that limited cabinet height and depth. The homeowners also wanted a larger island without blocking the main walkway to the dining area.
Our Solution
We designed a fully custom layout with tall upper cabinets, deeper base storage, and a walnut island sized to fit the circulation path. The cabinets were shop-built in our facility using plywood boxes, maple doors, and soft-close hinges and slides, then finished in a durable white enamel with a clear-coated walnut accent.
The Result
The finished kitchen now has a balanced look with clean lines, more storage, and a stronger focal point in the center island. The ceiling-height cabinetry makes the room feel taller, while the mixed materials add warmth without making the space feel busy.

Client Outcome
