Project Overview
MB Millwork recently completed a custom kitchen cabinets project in Clifton, NJ, for a 12' x 14' kitchen that needed more storage, better drawer access, and a cleaner look overall. We built shop-fabricated cabinets in a soft taupe painted finish, paired them with a 6'9" walnut island, quartz countertops with light veining, and a matte ceramic backsplash that runs full height behind the range. The finished kitchen now feels more open and practical for everyday cooking, with a layout that makes better use of every wall.
The Problem
Before the project, the Clifton kitchen had older raised-panel cabinets, a small peninsula, and not enough usable drawer storage for cookware and prep items. The finishes were dark and worn, and the room felt tighter than it should have because the cabinet layout didn’t fully use the available walls. The homeowners wanted a custom solution that would make the kitchen feel brighter and easier to work in every day.
The Challenge
The kitchen included a short return wall near the dining area and a soffit over part of the sink run, which limited standard cabinet sizing. The homeowners also wanted a functional island with seating, so the design had to improve storage without crowding the walkway.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and built a layout that maximized storage while keeping the circulation comfortable. The cabinets were fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop using plywood boxes, painted maple doors, soft-close hinges, and full-extension drawer slides for smooth daily use. We finished the space with a walnut island, quartz counters, and a full-height backsplash to give the kitchen a clean, built-in look.
The Result
The completed kitchen feels brighter, more balanced, and much easier to use from one end to the other. The taupe perimeter cabinets and walnut island add warmth without making the room feel heavy, and the new storage keeps counters clearer throughout the day. The finish details and careful fit give the whole space a more tailored look.
