Project Overview
MB Millwork wrapped up a custom kitchen cabinets project in Carlstadt, NJ, for a 13'0" x 15'0" kitchen that needed more storage and a cleaner layout for everyday cooking. We built and installed shop-fabricated cabinetry in a soft greige finish, added a 7'4" walnut island with seating for three, and finished the space with quartz countertops, brushed nickel hardware, and a full-height tile backsplash behind the range. The result is a kitchen that feels easier to work in and more polished without losing the warmth the homeowners wanted.
The Problem
Before the project, the Carlstadt kitchen had aging maple cabinets, worn laminate counters, and a narrow work area between the sink wall and the refrigerator. The corner cabinet was hard to reach, and the room felt darker than it should have because of the older finish and limited under-cabinet lighting. The homeowners wanted more storage, better flow, and a kitchen that matched the rest of their updated home.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a soffit along the main cabinet wall and a side entry door close to the prep zone, so the layout had to be planned carefully to keep the walkway open. We also needed to fit a usable island into the room without crowding the seating and appliance clearances.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and mapped out a layout that added storage while improving circulation around the room. Our shop built the cabinetry with plywood construction, soft-close hinges, full-extension drawer slides, and painted shaker-style fronts, then paired it with a walnut island for contrast and added function. We completed the project with quartz countertops, a tile backsplash, custom trim around the soffit, and careful on-site installation to tie everything together.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more organized, and easier to use from one task to the next. The greige cabinetry softens the room, the walnut island gives it a strong focal point, and the quartz surfaces make cleanup simple after meals. The fitted trim and backsplash details help the whole space look finished and intentional.
