Chapter 06

Project Overview

MB Millwork recently completed a cabinet refacing project in Clifton, NJ, for a 12' x 13' kitchen that had solid cabinet boxes but worn, dated doors and drawers. We refaced the existing cabinetry with new shaker fronts in a soft white finish, added matching end panels and crown trim, and installed soft-close hinges and drawer slides for a cleaner, quieter feel. The refreshed kitchen now looks brighter and more current without the cost and downtime of a full remodel.

Cabinet Refacing
Chapter 01

The Problem

Before the refacing, the Clifton kitchen had dark laminate cabinet doors, visible wear around the handles, and a finish that had started to fade near the sink wall. The cabinet layout still worked, but the room felt dated and the doors no longer closed evenly. The homeowners wanted a fresher look without changing the kitchen footprint.

Chapter 02

The Challenge

The cabinet boxes were in good shape, so the job needed to preserve the existing structure while making the finishes look fully custom. The homeowner also wanted the work completed with minimal disruption since the kitchen is used heavily every day.

Chapter 03

Our Solution

We measured the existing boxes carefully, then built new shaker-style doors and drawer fronts in our Lyndhurst shop for a precise match. The refacing package included soft white paint, new concealed hinges, updated drawer slides, matching toe kicks, crown molding, and finished end panels to give the room a uniform look. We completed the installation with careful adjustments so every door and drawer lined up cleanly.

The Result

The finished kitchen looks brighter, cleaner, and more cohesive, with a smooth painted finish that replaces the old dated surface. The new doors and trim made the cabinets feel like they were newly installed, while the preserved cabinet boxes helped keep the project efficient. The space now has a more polished feel without a full demolition.

In Their Words
We wanted the kitchen updated without tearing everything out, and this was the right call. The new cabinet fronts look great, and the whole space feels cleaner and more put together.
