Project Overview
MB Millwork recently completed a kitchen design project in Nutley, NJ, for a 12' x 13' kitchen that needed a better flow, more storage, and finishes that felt cleaner in the space. We created a custom plan with shop-built cabinetry in a soft ivory paint, a 6'4" white oak island with seating for two, quartz countertops, and a full-height matte subway backsplash. The finished kitchen now feels brighter, more organized, and easier to use for everyday cooking and family meals.
The Problem
Before the redesign, the Nutley kitchen had older oak cabinets, a tight work triangle, and a small peninsula that made the room feel crowded during meal prep. The counters were worn, storage was limited, and the upper cabinets stopped short of the ceiling, leaving unused space above them. The homeowners wanted a layout that felt more open without losing the practicality they needed every day.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a rear door near the dining area and a soffit running across part of the sink wall, which limited cabinet sizing and made the layout tricky. The homeowners also wanted island seating, so we had to balance storage, clearance, and traffic flow in a compact footprint.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and mapped out a layout that made better use of every wall while keeping the walkways comfortable. The cabinetry was shop-built in our Lyndhurst facility with plywood boxes, soft-close hardware, and painted maple doors for a durable, clean finish. We paired the perimeter cabinets with a white oak island, quartz tops, and a matte ceramic backsplash to create a warm, cohesive look that works with the rest of the home.
The Result
The completed kitchen feels more open and polished, with a layout that gives the homeowners room to prep, cook, and move around without bumping into each other. The soft ivory cabinets brighten the room, while the oak island adds contrast and gives the space a clear focal point. The new finishes and custom fit make the kitchen feel much more intentional from every angle.
