Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen design project in North Arlington, NJ, for a 12'8" x 14'2" kitchen that needed a better layout, more storage, and finishes that felt lighter in the room. We designed and installed shop-built custom cabinetry in a soft pearl white, paired it with a 7' walnut island, quartz countertops with subtle gray veining, and a full-height matte ceramic backsplash behind the range. The homeowners now have a cleaner work zone, more usable drawer space, and a kitchen that feels easier to move through from morning coffee to dinner cleanup.
The Problem
Before the redesign, the North Arlington kitchen had older maple cabinets, a tight prep area between the sink and range, and a peninsula that made the walkway feel narrow. The laminate counters were worn near the sink, and the storage was split up in a way that left small appliances sitting out on the counter. The room functioned, but it felt crowded and a little dated.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a soffit over the refrigerator wall and a rear doorway close to the dining area, which made cabinet sizing and island placement tricky. The homeowners wanted seating at the island without cutting into the main traffic path, so the layout had to stay compact and efficient.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and built a plan that used the footprint more efficiently while keeping the room open. The cabinetry was fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop with plywood construction, soft-close hinges and drawer slides, and painted shaker fronts for a clean, durable finish. We added a tall pantry cabinet, deep drawer bases, quartz countertops, and a walnut island with seating to give the kitchen more storage and better daily function.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more balanced, and much easier to use. The pearl white cabinets and walnut island give the room contrast without making it feel busy, and the new storage keeps the counters clear. Custom trim and careful fitting around the soffit and doorway made the whole space feel built in rather than patched together.
