Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen design project in East Rutherford, NJ, for a 12'8" x 14'2" kitchen that needed a more functional layout and a finish that felt less dated. We designed shop-built custom cabinetry in a soft ivory paint, paired it with a 6'10" white oak island, quartz countertops with light gray veining, and a full-height ceramic backsplash behind the range. The homeowners now have better storage, a clearer prep zone, and a kitchen that feels easier to use every day.
The Problem
Before the redesign, the East Rutherford kitchen had aging oak cabinets, worn laminate counters, and a peninsula that cut into the main walkway toward the dining area. The corner storage was awkward to reach, and the dark finish on the cabinets made the room feel tighter than it really was. The homeowners wanted a cleaner layout with more usable storage and a brighter, more current look.
The Challenge
The room had a soffit along the refrigerator wall and a rear entry door near the work zone, so cabinet sizing and island placement had to be planned carefully. We also needed to add seating without narrowing the path through the kitchen.
Our Solution
We began with a free 3D design consultation and laid out a plan that improved circulation while making better use of each wall. The cabinetry was fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop with plywood construction, soft-close hardware, and shaker-style fronts, while the white oak island added warmth, deep drawer storage, and a durable prep surface. We finished the space with quartz countertops, a deep single-bowl sink, and a full-height backsplash to tie everything together.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more open, and much easier to move through. The ivory cabinets soften the room, the oak island gives it a clear focal point, and the new storage keeps everyday items within reach without cluttering the counters. The built-in details help the space look finished from every angle.
