Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen design project in East Rutherford, NJ, for a 12'4" x 14'8" kitchen that needed a better layout and finishes that felt more connected to the rest of the house. We designed and installed shop-built custom cabinetry in a warm pearl white, a 6'8" walnut island with seating for two, quartz countertops, and a full-height ceramic backsplash behind the range. The new setup gives the homeowners more prep space, easier storage access, and a kitchen that feels organized from breakfast through dinner.
The Problem
Before the redesign, the East Rutherford kitchen had older oak cabinets, a narrow prep area, and a peninsula that cut into the main walkway. The laminate counters showed wear around the sink, and the corner storage was hard to reach, so everyday cooking felt more cramped than it should have. The homeowners wanted a cleaner layout, better storage, and finishes that felt more current.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a soffit over the refrigerator wall and a side door close to the main work area, which limited cabinet sizing and made the island placement tricky. The design also needed to keep clear circulation to the dining room while still adding useful seating.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and mapped out a layout that improved flow without wasting any wall space. The cabinetry was fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop with plywood construction, soft-close hinges and drawer slides, and painted shaker fronts, while the walnut island added contrast and extra storage. We finished the room with quartz tops, a deep single-bowl sink, and a full-height backsplash behind the range to give the kitchen a cleaner look.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more open, and much easier to use day to day. The pearl white cabinets and walnut island create a balanced look, while the new countertop runs and storage upgrades make prep and cleanup more efficient. The details fit the room well, so the kitchen now feels built for the home instead of worked around.
