Project Overview
MB Millwork completed a kitchen design project in Clifton, NJ, for a 12'8" x 14'6" kitchen that needed a more practical layout and a lighter finish for everyday use. We designed and installed shop-built custom cabinetry in a soft ivory tone, paired it with a 7'0" white oak island, quartz countertops with subtle gray veining, and a full-height handmade-look ceramic backsplash behind the range. The new plan gives the homeowners better storage, a wider prep area, and a kitchen that feels easier to cook and gather in.
The Problem
Before the redesign, the Clifton kitchen had older oak cabinets, worn laminate counters, and a peninsula that cut into the main walkway between the sink and dining room. The corner storage was awkward to reach, and the darker finishes made the room feel tighter than it really was. The homeowners wanted a brighter kitchen with better organization and a layout that made daily cooking less of a squeeze.
The Challenge
The kitchen had a soffit along one wall and a side entry near the refrigerator run, so cabinet sizing and island placement had to be planned carefully. We also needed to include seating without narrowing the path into the dining area.
Our Solution
We started with a free 3D design consultation and mapped out a layout that improved flow while making better use of each wall. The cabinetry was fabricated in our Lyndhurst shop with plywood construction, soft-close hinges, and full-extension drawer slides, while the white oak island added warmth, deep storage, and a durable work surface. We finished the space with quartz countertops, a full-height backsplash behind the range, and custom trim around the soffit and openings so the room looked built in from edge to edge.
The Result
The finished kitchen feels brighter, more open, and much easier to use from one task to the next. The ivory cabinetry and oak island create a balanced look, and the quartz surfaces give the homeowners a clean, durable workspace that is simple to maintain. The fitted trim and backsplash details help the whole room feel complete instead of patched together.
